The Warrington Exhibition
The Northern Association stages an exhibition of members' work every few years. The pictures here show a few of the things on show at the latest, held at The Birchwood Centre in Warrington in March 2004

Bob Shaw’s magnificent 7¼” gauge Britannia earned him the Jack Coulson trophy, the latest in a long line of awards since Bob finished the engine ten years ago after nineteen years in the making. It has done a lot of work in those ten years and it bears the scars, but the quality shows through even now. Sadly, Bob died earlier this year. Jack Coulson was a prominent Leyland member who, like Bob, also died well before his time.

No one was quite sure how the Northern Association came by the Aeromodeller trophy, since we ‘don’t do’ model aeroplanes, more’s the pity. The nearest thing we had was an aeroplane engine, and amongst several very nice engines of various kinds, Alan Atherton’s workman-like rendering of a De Havilland. ‘Gypsy’ aero engine was deemed the best and duly awarded the Aeromodeller trophy.
The Scale Ships trophy for best kit-built boat went to Graham Conrad for his stylish steam launch ‘Lady Philippa’. Every detail was beautifully executed and the judges were very impressed.
